Melvin Lundeen of South Haven died at his home Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009. He was 79.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Zion United Methodist Church in South Haven, with Pastor Luke C. Nelson officiating. Friends may call from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Zion Cemetery.

Melvin Allan Lundeen was born May 22, 1930, in South Haven to John Elmer and Anna Esther (Leppa) Lundeen. He married Carol A. Thorson April 13, 1957, in South Haven. Melvin was a master plumber, and with his wife, owned and operated Lundeen OK Hardware in South Haven. He was a 31-year member of the South Haven Fire Department and a member of Zion United Methodist Church, St. Cloud Moose Lodge and Sauk Centre Eagles Aerie. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, reading, airplanes and visiting flight museums.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters Arlene and Gladys, and brothers Arnold and Vernon.

Melvin is survived by his wife Carol of South Haven; children Alan (and Melissah) Lundeen of Karlstad, Linda (and Kevin) Caird of St. Augusta, Lisa (and Allen) Hechtel of South Haven; sisters Elaine (and Don) Besonen of Litchfield, and Lorraine (and Jim) Besonen of Minnetonka; nine grandchildren Andrew and Morganne Lundeen, Scott, Ryan and Nicholas Caird, Melissa and Matthew Hechtel, Samanthah Wesner, and Jacob Anderson.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren and the honorary pallbearers will be members of the South Haven Fire Department and Auxiliary. Music for the service will be provided by Esther Marks, soloist, and Jan Ostroot, pianist. Memorials are preferred.
