Meteor shower peaked Monday

Weather: Spring weather will be with us for much of the midweek with the threat of thunderstorms that could produce some severe weather. The best chance of severe weather appears to be along and south of I-94, but some thunderstorms will also be possible across parts of North Central Minnesota.

The main threat of these storms will be large hail and damaging winds. Also, brief heavy downpours are also possible through Thursday night that could produce some flooding. We can?Äôt rule out a tornado as well with these storms. As always, keep an eye and an ear to changing weather conditions.

The Eta Aquarids Meteor Showers peaked Monday of this week, but there will be lingering meteors to be seen for much of this week. However, because of the fact that we will have the chance of thunderstorms from Tuesday night into early Friday this won?Äôt be the best opportunity to view this annual show.

You might have to wait until the Perseids Meteor Showers which will peak Aug. 12. This show always has much more activity than the Eta Aquarids with up to 100 meteors per hour so it is well worth the wait.

Of course this weekend is Mother?Äôs Day Weekend. The weekend looks decent with temperatures near average. There is a small chance of an isolated shower Saturday at this stage, and a slightly better chance of more widespread showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening.

By the way, to all the mothers across the area, I hope you have a fantastic weekend. Make sure your kids spoil you this weekend.

Also, to my own mother Bonnie, thanks for all that you have done over the years for your family. As my dad always says ?Äúshe is the glue that holds the family together.?Äù

Have a great weekend all of you moms that are the glue in your own family as well.

Weather history: On this date in 1915 ?ÄúOld man winter?Äôs last hurrah with 5 inches of snow along Lake Superior.?Äù  Other parts of Northern and Central Minnesota also saw some snow!

Weather fact: If you are caught driving during a tornado drive to the closest sturdy shelter. The Red Cross recommends that if there is flying debris you should ?Äústay in your car with your seatbelt on and the engine running.?Äù  Also, put your head down below the windows and ?Äúcover your head with your hands and a blanket!?Äù
