A Memorial Day program will be held at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center on Monday, May 28. This year’s program is coordinated by the St. Cloud Area Metropolitan Veterans Council (MetroVets). The event will be held at Building 96, Recreation Building, near the Veterans Golf Course. Events will begin with a mini-parade at 10:30 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 11 a.m. Col. Scott V. Anderson, commander of the 644th Regional Support Group (Army Reserves), will be this year’s keynote speaker. Col. Anderson, who has numerous awards and decorations, commanded the Army Reserves’ 367th Engineer Battalion in their 15-month tour of duty in Afghanistan. Music will be provided by the St. Cloud Municipal Band. The public is invited to join veterans and patients at this ceremony. Visitors to the medical center are encouraged to bring lawn chairs as seating is very limited. Many volunteers are needed to escort patients to the program and enjoy the morning together. If you would like to volunteer, contact Voluntary Service at (320) 255-6365. MetroVets and St. Cloud VA Medical Center encourage all citizens to participate in the National “Moment of Remembrance”. This Moment of Remembrance asks all Americans to pause for one minute simultaneously at 2 p.m. CDT on Memorial Day, to honor those who have died in their nation’s defense and to keep the true meaning and spirit of Memorial Day alive.
