Shawn Meyer, agriculture and industrial education teacher at Kimball Area High School, has been nominated and is eligible for the honor of 2004 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Meyer is competing against 150 educators throughout the state for the honor. This year’s program will name the 40th Minnesota Teacher of the Year, celebrating the tradition of excellence in teaching in Minnesota. Applications include pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers, from public or private schools. The 70,000-member Education Minnesota organizes and underwrites the teacher of the year program. The 2004 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced Sunday, May 2, at the Northland Inn and Conference Center in Brooklyn Park. Over the coming months, a 24-member panel of community leaders will name a group of semi-finalists then finalists. Program supporters include the SMARTer Kids Foundation, the Northland Inn and Conference Center, Education Minnesota ESI, United Educators Credit Union, McDonald’s Restaurants of Minnesota, Teachers Federal Credit Union and Pearson Education.
