Mies Outland soon to be the biggest

·

To our south, Darwin has the largest ball of twine in the world. Soon, to our west, Watkins will have the largest Polaris showroom in the world. Mies Equipment changed its name this month to Mies Outland. Already among the top five dealers for the past five years, Mies Outland is busy building a large new addition. Due to be completed the end of December, the new showroom will be just short of 30,000 square feet – the largest Polaris showroom in the world. Founded in 1947 by Mike Mies, the company started as a John Deere dealer. In 1965 Mike’s son Tony added Minnesota-based Polaris to the dealership. In 2000 Victory, the motorcycle line from Polaris, was added to the dealership. Tony retired about six years ago as his sons Steve and Jeff Mies took over as co-owners. Brothers Steve and Jeff Mies have been in the family business for 17 and 12 years, respectively. They currently are the only family members in the business. The expansion will allow Mies Outland to carry more units of the same lines they currently carry: John Deere, Polaris and Victory. There are no plans to add other lines at this time. There is something to be said to sticking with what you do best. Mies Outland will continue to provide full parts and service departments for John Deere, Polaris and Victory. Co-owner Jeff Mies explained that they currently sell about 2,500 units per year, from lawnmowers to combines. They have consistently been in the top five Polaris sellers, often second or third in world sales. Who knows where they can go with the bigger, spiffed-up showroom.
