Moderate temps this week, but a chance of snow this weekend

We enjoyed a relatively quiet Thanksgiving Weekend across Minnesota. A strong storm system stayed to our south and brought with it heavy snow across parts of Iowa.

Some locations in Iowa received anywhere from 10-15 inches of snow with blizzard conditions found on Sunday. This caused travel problems for those returning home after the long Thanksgiving Holiday.

Another weak system clipped parts of southwestern Minnesota on Monday into early Tuesday. Temperatures were cold on Monday with highs generally in the mid to upper teens.

Looking ahead, more snow will be possible on Wednesday into early Thursday. Some spots in central and west central Minnesota and into parts of Wisconsin could see one to two inches of snow.

Drier weather should return by Thursday afternoon into Friday as warmer weather also arrives. High temperatures should climb into the low to mid 30s.

Another system could bring some additional snow by the weekend. The track of this system and its intensity are uncertain, but it is something to keep an eye on at this point.

Weather history: On this day in 1983 records show that “widespread” snow fell across much of central and west central Minnesota. There were reports of over a foot of “snow in many areas.” Northern Minnesota also picked-up snow from the storm.

Weather fact: Did you know that “light and fluffy snow is often called “powder?”
