‘Monster’ Mike wins silver medal

·

Mike Schultz competed last Friday, July 31, in Los Angeles at the ESPN X Games. He is a veteran racer, in both Snocross and Motocross, and he is well accustomed to facing – and surmounting – challenges.

But this year would be different. In an instant, Mike’s life was changed when his left lower leg was severely injured in a snowmobile race. That was December. After several surgeries, the leg was amputated, and Mike had to recover and learn to walk with a prosthetic. He constructed his own high-impact knee for his prosthetic, and just weeks later he was racing against world champions in L.A. And he took the silver medal, second place in the world. The fact that these were the “adapted” X Games doesn’t even matter. What matters is that he did it, and did it well. And now it’s only 175 days until his next race. Yes, he’s racing forward with plans for more Snocross and Motocross. Indeed, there’s no stopping him!
