Monticello-Big Lake bike rodeo offers helmets at reduced price

·

Monticello-Big Lake Community Hospital District is proud to announce its ninth annual Bike Rodeo and Helmet Sale. Bike Rodeo is part of the Monticello Walk and Roll celebration from 9 a.m.-12 noon Saturday, May 22, at the Monticello-Big Lake Hospital parking lot, 1013 Hart Boulevard in Monticello. Bike helmets will be sold for $3 each on a first-come basis. Helmets will be available in toddler, child, youth and adult sizes. In order to ensure a correct fit, the wearer of each helmet must be present to be fitted by trained staff before purchasing a helmet. The hospital is able to offer helmets at a reduced cost because of the generous support of local businesses and organizations that have helped subsidize the price of the helmets. Again this year, the ambulance staff will host the Teddy Bear Clinic. Children can bring any teddy bear, stuffed animal or doll to the clinic, where Emergency Medical Service Technicians will “treat” it with bandages, splints or shots. The goal of the Teddy Bear Clinic is to introduce children to Emergency Medical Services in a fun and non-threatening way. Bike Rodeo will also feature a skills course and safety training for bikers and skaters with a certificate awarded at the end of the course, as well as a bicycle safety check.
