More snow could be in our future this week

·

This has been a very active month for snowfall so far in Minnesota. Of course, we told you at the start of the month that the 30-day outlook was calling for below-normal temperatures but above-normal precipitation for the month of March.

We had three systems that pushed across Minnesota last week. The final system dropped anywhere from 3 to 14 inches of snow across most of the state on Saturday. The heaviest snow was in the Duluth area where 14 inches of snow fell. Much of central, west central, and parts of north central Minnesota generally picked-up from 5 to 10 inches of snow.

A Blizzard Warning was in effect for much of the -northern-half of the state late Friday into Saturday night. The wind gusted at times to 45 mph which made for white-out conditions. Other areas were under a Winter Weather Advisory due to the snow and wind.

We might get a break from all of the snow as the 6- to 10-day outlook is calling for below-normal precipitation, but also below–normal temperatures. However, we do have the threat of more snow coming our way for late Wednesday into Thursday. Hopefully, this might be the last for at least awhile, but don’t count on it.

Be safe on the roadways.

Weather history: On this date in 1942, records show that the “Ides of March Blizzard” occurs where heavy snow and strong winds hit the state. A reported “32 people died” in the storm.

Weather facts: Did you know that the term “normal” refers to the average element over a period of time such as 30 years? This could include the average high or low or average snowfall.
