Weather: We had a beautiful weekend across the state of Minnesota this past weekend! Temperatures climbed into the 60s and 70s making for a perfect opportunity to spend time outdoors doing all those things we weren?Äôt able to do all winter! I know many of you spent the time getting your yards and gardens ready!
An area of low pressure moved into Minnesota Monday night. This system brought some scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region. Thankfully the threat of severe weather was low with this weather disturbance.
Drier weather returned by Tuesday as high pressure pushed across the region. This big dome of high pressure will keep things in check for much of the rest of the weekend and into the start of the Mother?Äôs Day Weekend.
Temperatures will be near perfect for the mid-week and into the weekend. We should see lots of mid to upper 60s and lower 70s across the state of Minnesota. We could even see some mid to upper 70s across parts of southern Minnesota on Saturday out ahead of our next system.
There is a system a long ways out that could bring some rain chances by late in the weekend into early next week. At this stage it looks like it should hold off until late Sunday into Monday. All-in-all, it looks like a nice weekend for all the mothers across the area.
Speaking of mothers, I have to wish my own mom, Bonnie, a ?Äúbig happy Mother?Äôs Day!?Äù Thanks for being a special mom and all that you do every day to make all of your kids feel loved! To all the rest of you moms, I hope your day is a special one as well!
Have a great rest of the week and upcoming weekend!
Weather history: On this date in 1934, ?ÄúThe Classic Dust Bowl?Äù hit Minnesota! Record shows that ?Äúextensive damage occurred over the region, with near daytime blackout condition being reported in the Twin Cities and west central Minnesota.?Äù The dust drifts caused ?Äúhazardous travel, especially at Fairmont where drifts of up to 6 inches were reported.?Äù
Weather fact: The Dust Bowl, also known as the Dirty Thirties, ?Äúwas a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the American prairies during the 1930s.?Äù Experts say that a ?Äúsevere drought and a failure to apply dryland farming methods to prevent wind erosion caused the phenomenon.?Äù
