Nasty plants presentation at Lake Maria State Park

Did you know that many wild and cultivated plants that grow in our area are poisonous? Dr. Steve Saupe?Äôs presentation at the Lake Maria State Park Trail Center at 

10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, will provide an overview of what makes a plant poisonous and then describe some poisonous plants that one might encounter in central Minnesota. Dr. Saupe is a professor and botanist at St. John?Äôs University and the College of
St. Benedict, and will be the featured speaker.

Dr. Saupe received his bachelor?Äôs degree from Lynchburg College and his master?Äôs and doctorate degrees in botany from the University of Illinois. He is the curator of the Bailey Herbarium at St. John?Äôs and the College of
St. Benedict.

The program is free, but there is a $5 daily vehicle permit fee for those without an annual permit. Lake Maria State Park is located approximately seven miles northwest of Monticello, five miles north of Maple Lake and 10 miles northeast of Annandale on Wright County Highway 111.
