The City of Kimball will particpate in National Night Out, designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized against crime. Tentative plans for Kimball’s observance is there will be activities from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, in Willow Creek Park in Kimball. Events include: free root beer floats, hamburgers and hot dogs for sale, free live musical entertainment by Tim Diffley, Lockjaw the Clown at 6 p.m., the Kimball Fire Department will have free identification and fingerprinting of children and also have their escue and fire trucks on display, balloons, pencils and color books for the kids, literature for adults and a short program at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the City of Kimball, Styme Industries, Kimball Area Chamber of Commerce, Heritage House of Kimball, Kimball Wrestling Association and Kimball Friends of the Library (any other businesses or organizations that would like to participate can call Chris at city hall (320) 398-2725. Citizens are asked to turn their porch lights on from 8-10 p.m. on Aug. 7, alerting everyone that we are “a community against crime and drugs”. City of Kimball Mayor Tammy Konz has proclaimed Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, as National Night Out 2007 – “a going away party for drugs and crimes.” The proclamation reads: “WHEREAS, the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and TARGET is sponsoring a unique, nationwide crime, drug and violence prevention program on Aug. 7, 2007, entitled “National Night Out”; and WHEREAS, City of Kimball plays a vital role in assisting the (local police department/sheriff’s department) through joint crime, drug and violence prevention efforts in the City of Kimball and is supporting “National Night Out 2007” locally; and WHEREAS, it is essential that all citizens of City of Kimball be aware of the importance of crime prevention programs and impact that their participation can have on reducing crime, drugs and violence in City of Kimball; and WHEREAS, police-community partnerships, neighborhood safety, awareness and cooperation are important themes of the “National Night Out” program; NOW, THEREFORE I/WE, Tammy Konz, Mayor, and Council, do hereby call upon all citizens of Kimball to join (City of Kimball), the National Association of Town Watch and TARGET in supporting “24th Annual National Night Out” on Aug. 7, 2007.
