Near-average temps for this time of the year

It has been wonderful to see some drier weather the past few days. I know the area farmers have finally been able to get out in the fields again to do their last minute harvesting. Temperatures the last couple of days have been near average for this time of the year as high pressure has continued to keep most of the state in check. High temperatures have generally been in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

An area of low pressure has been racing out of the Gulf of Alaska the past few days.  It will finally arrive late Wednesday into Thursday across the Upper Midwest. We will see an increase in the cloud cover associated with this disturbance. Meanwhile, a weak upper level low will lift out of the Desert Southwest and move into the region as well. We will see rain chances returning Wednesday night into Thursday. A more active weather pattern once again will linger through the weekend. Slightly cooler weather is anticipated for Saturday before we get back into the lower 50s by Sunday.

In case you are wondering, we turn back the clocks not this weekend, but the following weekend.  Daylight Saving Time will end at 2 a.m Sunday, Nov. 4. Enjoy this “typical” fall weather.

Weather history: On this day in 1922 a powerful ‘low pressure system’ moved across Minnesota. For example, the system reportedly brought winds gusting to 55 to 60 mph to Collegeville.

Weather fact: A low pressure system has “lower pressure at its center than the areas around it.” Winds blow towards the low pressure, and the “air rises in the atmosphere where they meet.”
