The Kimball Area Friends of the Library will be sponsoring “New Friends, New Neighbors” Saturday, February 28. This program will introduce the library and the Friends of the Library to our youngest residents (ages 3 to 9) and their parents or caregivers. Whether you are a new friend in our community or a long-time neighbor, you are welcome to attend a morning full of fun activities at your local library. This event is taking place during national “I Love to Read” month and will honor one of our most beloved neighbors, the late Mister Fred Rogers. A strong advocate for reading, children, families and neighbors for the past 40 years, Mister Rogers’ legacy lives on through his books, his songs and his inspiration for this program. Children who attend will have an opportunity to read books and do crafts in Mister Rogers’ house. Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood of Make Believe friends King Friday, Queen Sara and Prince Tuesday will serve them a morning snack. “I Like You Just the Way You Are,” Mister Rogers’ favorite character-building phrase carried down from his grandfather, will be printed on buttons to be given to children who attend. Those children who register and attend will receive a free canvas book bag. All library card holders and new card holders that day will receive a free book. Each child will have a chance to make a “Who’s in Your Neighborhood ?” book. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to slip on their favorite cardigan sweaters and dig out their old bumper sneakers and bring their children to “New Friends, New Neighbors.” The event will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Kimball City Hall. Registration is limited to the first 35 children and you can register by calling the library at (320) 398-3915. This event was made possible through a grant to the Kimball Area Friends of the Library from the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation of New York.
