New health-related classes offered at Ridgewater College

Several new classes relating to health topics will be offered at Ridgewater College this fall. They may be of interest to health professionals and the general public. Contact hours and a certificate of completion will be issued for each class. Basic computer skills for the health care professional This course focuses on beginning computer skills and techniques. The instructor will guide students through basic keyboard functions, creating and receiving e-mail, using the Internet to access information, and typing a document. Classes will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 8-29, in room A-142 on the Willmar campus. The cost is $129 including materials.   Dealing with difficult behaviors This class will take place Thursday, Sept. 11, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on ITV at both campuses. The workshop teaches practical ways to deal with difficult behaviors. The cost is $35. Assessing the fifth vital sign This course is intended for professional healthcare providers who perform pain assessment and management. Providers will learn behavioral and cognitive assessment scales that provide guidelines for a more complete pain management assessment. The course will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Hutchinson campus. The cost is $30 including materials. Introduction to acupressure and acupuncture This class is a discussion of treatments to restore the balance of energy. Acupressure will also be discussed as a preventative and maintenance tool and treatment aid. The class will be from 6-8:30 p.m. on the Hutchinson campus, Tuesday, Sept. 23. The cost is $39. May the force be with you This class introduces students to Qigong, an ancient and powerful healing form of Chinese medicine. Individuals will learn about energy medicine and how it is possible to heal oneself through the incredible power of the mind. The class will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, on the Hutchinson Campus. Cost is $27.
