Not much of a warm up

·

A wind chill advisory was in effect for Monday for the northern half of the state of Minnesota. Wind chill values overnight and into the morning were in the -25 to -35 range.

We didn’t see much of a warm up for Monday afternoon as high temperatures remained generally only in the single digits across the region. This cold air became a faded memory, however, on Tuesday, as we started the warm-up across the area. High temperatures climbed into the mid- to upper-20s across much of the state of Minnesota.

A further warm-up is expected to take place on Wednesday as a warm front and a southwesterly flow will pull in some very mild air. Parts of the state of Minnesota could be near record high territory with highs expected into the mid to upper 30s and lower 40s!

We will cool down briefly on Thursday and Friday, but the 30s and possibly even the 40s should return by this weekend. No major storms appear on the horizon at this stage!

It’s been a cold winter so enjoy the midweek and weekend warm up, you deserve it.

Weather history: On this date back in 1923 records show that a “Black Dust Blizzard” ended after two days. The dirt was blown into the state from “North Dakota which created drifts!”

Weather fact: Most of us are familiar with “dust storms.” A dust storm is a “meteorological phenomenon common in arid and semi-arid regions.”  Dust storms arise when a gust front or other strong wind blows loose sand and dirt from a dry surface.
