Orlo Steele of Cold Spring, formerly of Kimball, died June 26, 2004, at Hennepin County Medical Center Burn Unit in Minneapolis as a result of injuries he sustained in a fire. He was 82. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. Friends called after 4 p.m. Monday, June 28, and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Parish prayers were at 7 p.m. Monday. Orlo E. Steele was born June 4, 1922, in Kimball to Roy and Eleanor (Keough) Steele. He married Berlyn Smith in Kimball; she preceded him in death in 1983. Orlo met Lou Lommel in 1984 and they have shared the last 20 years together. Orlo was a driver for Drayline in Kimball and he owned and operated a grinding and mixing portable feed mill company. He retired as a technical engineer from Kimball Area High School. An important time for Orlo was December 1996, when he was baptized a Catholic. Orlo enjoyed fishing, hunting, sight-seeing, and spending time with family and friends. Orlo was preceded in death by his parents, wife Berlyn, and brother Elwood. He is survived by his partner Lou Lommel; son Gary Steele of Minneapolis; brother Allen (and Arlene) Steele of International Falls; sister Jeanetta (and Roger) Carlson of Litchfield; grandson Josh Steele of Washington, D.C.; Lou’s sons Joe (and LaVonne) Lommel of Red Wing, Gary (and Linda) Lommel of Isanti, and Bob (and Diane) Lommel of St. Cloud.
