Oscar Theis of Country Manor Campus in Sartell, formerly of Kimball, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at his residence. He was 87. Mass of Christian Burial took place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kimball, with Rev. David Grundman and Deacon Steve Yanish officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Friends visited from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, and one hour prior to service at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Kimball. A prayer service was at 7 p.m. Thursday. Oscar J. Theis was born July 1, 1916, to Nicholas and Theresa (Miller) Theis of Watkins. He married Luella Dahnke Sept. 17, 1940, in St. Anne’s Catholic Church. He farmed for four years near Kimball, worked for the Kimball Creamery for nine years, managed the Kimball Municipal Liquor Store for 25 years, and was employed by Dingmann Funeral Care for 30 years. He retired in 1979. Oscar served as mayor of Kimball for 10 years, was a member of the Kimball Lions Club and a former member of the Kimball Fire Department and the Waite Park Moose Lodge. He was an active member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, serving as an usher and Eucharistic minister. Fishing, hunting, camping and saw sharpening were some of Oscar’s favorite activities. Oscar was preceded in death by his brothers Matt and Albert and his sister Katherine Van Nurden. He is survived by his wife Luella of Kimball; children Audrey (and DelRay) Anders of Litchfield, Don (and Liz) Theis of Ramsey, and Doris (and Arnie) Mead of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren plus one due in October; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Bruce and Barrett Anders, Brad Shropshire, Duane, Scott and Brad Theis, Steve Mead and Pat Briggs. Organist Frosty Schiefelbein and the St. Anne’s Choir provided music at the service. Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Kimball.
