‘Our Big Fat Greek Festival’, the fifth annual event, will be held from 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Holy Myrrhbearers Orthodox Church, 601 Seventh Ave. So., St. Cloud. This authentic Greek festival will be celebrated with food, music and dance, hosted by Holy Myrrhbearers Orthodox Church. The day’s celebration begins at 9 a.m. with an Orthodox Byzantine worship service in English and open to the public. The Kalogerson Greek Band returns this year, featuring the voice and clarinet of Callie Kalogerson. Live dance shows will be held throughout the day and will include instruction for anyone who would like to join in. The church’s doors are open all morning, but food and music gets under way at the street fair at 11:30 a.m. The menu includes freshly cooked favorites, including gyros, spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese pie), Greek salad, pita bread and beverages. Desserts include baklava, ravani (orange almond cake), karithopeta (walnut cake) and kourabiedes (cookies). Following the food and dance portion of the event, festival-goers can take a tour of the church. A market tent will feature Greek specialty food items and gifts items. Adding their support to the event are St. Cloud businesses Hemsing’s Deli, United Marketing Solutions, Inc. and Coborn’s. Holy Myrrhbearers Orthodox Church, a parish of the Orthodox Church in America, was established six years ago. The regular service schedule is: Great Vespers at 6 p.m. Saturday nights, and Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. Sunday mornings.
