Peddling Your Pickles Safely? workshop scheduled

Do you make crisp tasty dill pickles? Do your friends rave about your homemade salsa? Have you thought about marketing your home-canned products at a farmers?Äô market?
If so, the ?ÄúPeddling Your Pickles Safely??Äù workshop is for you. At the workshop you will learn about the requirements of Minnesota?Äôs ?ÄúPickle Bill?Äù legislation. The workshop will be held Thursday, April 24, at Cabela?Äôs in Rogers. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This legislation set the guidelines for the sale of home canned acidified foods, such as pickles, salsas, or pickled vegetables at farmers?Äô markets or community events.
The workshop will address food safety from harvest to process, acid levels of produce and pH testing, operational guidelines for the sale of pickled products in Minnesota, labeling, home processing and equipment, and kitchen sanitation.
The program is sponsored by the Minnesota Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association (MFVGA), University of Minnesota Extension, and USDA-Risk Management Agency.
Conducting the workshop will be University of Minnesota Extension educators in food safety. Registration fee is $40.
