Plenty of sunshine was across the area

·

Weather: We really can?Äôt complain too much about the weather of late as temperatures have been averaging 5 to 10 degrees above normal for much of the week.

I was actually able to do some fishing Saturday morning and it was chilly early on in the day out on area lakes. Alexandria had a high Saturday at the airport of just 46 degrees. There was plenty of sunshine across the area which certainly helped those doing some outdoor activities.

Temperatures on Sunday soared as we climbed into the mid 60s across the state of Minnesota. Alexandria hit 66 degrees Sunday afternoon. This was about 12 degrees warmer than average.

Park Rapids, Nevis, and Sebeka all hit the mid 60s on Sunday. Sebeka and Nevis both topped out at 64 degrees Sunday.

However, parts of Southern Minnesota hit the mid 70s on Sunday. Madison hit 75 degrees and Tracy hit 74 degrees. Granite Falls, Appleton, Kimball, and Marshall all reached 73 degrees on Sunday.

Morris, Montevideo, and Elbow Lake were all a spring-like 72 degrees Sunday.

High pressure dominated our weather early on in the week and it kept things warm and dry. Temperatures Monday and Tuesday were generally in the low to mid 60s across the area.

A relatively weak disturbance will arrive by Wednesday and could bring some light rain across parts of Central and West Central Minnesota. A few spots could see a .25?Äù to .50?Äù of rainfall by Thursday morning.

The best chance of rain across the area should be late Wednesday evening into Wednesday night.

The good news is that things will clear out once again by Thursday afternoon and we should have a nice upcoming weekend.

Have a great rest of the week.

Weather history: On this date in 1938, ?ÄúSleet and wind causes damage along Minnesota/Wisconsin border.?Äù There was a reported ?Äú$100,000 in damage at La Crosse.?Äù

Weather fact: Land warms and cools faster than oceans or lakes as, ?ÄúIt takes five times more heat to warm one gram of water compared to one gram of soil.?Äù So in the summer, of course, daytime temperatures near the lake and ocean are cooler than temperatures inland.
