Ostmark Lutheran Church in rural Watkins will host a Polka Service and Pork Chop dinner at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1. In October last year, Ostmark held a first-of-its-kind Polka Service at Ostmark and it was a rousing success. This year Ostmark will expand on this popular event by adding a pork chop dinner after the service creating a Pork-n-Polka combination. Deb Holtz, the Music and Worship committee chair, said “At Ostmark we really enjoy not only music as a part of the Lutheran tradition, but fellowship after church, so this is a natural for us to add a pork chop dinner to this truly enjoyable service.” The public is invited to come for the polka service and stay for the $6 pork chop dinner served by the Ostmark Men’s Group. Stan Welle of “Stan Welle’s County Dutchmen” adapted the Lutheran liturgy to polka-style music. While Stan and fellow band members Jerry Bierschback and Jack Schuh have facilitated Catholic Polka Masses but last year was their first Lutheran service. Ostmark Lutheran Church is located between Watkins, Kimball and Litchfield, southwest of the intersection of County Road 17 and Hwy. 24 at 32721 680 Ave. in rural Watkins.
