The Powder Ridge Development Race Team had the second race at the Minnesota Ski Race League (MSRL) Slalom and Giant Slalom competition at Mt. Kato ski area last Saturday. Three teams competed in Saturday’s race including Mt. Kato, Welch Village and Powder Ridge. The day began with slalom courses in the morning and giant slalom in the afternoon, and ended with an awards ceremony. “All of the racers have shown improvement and we saw many placing in today’s event,” said Lori Rice, Powder Ridge ski coach. “Skiing is a lifetime sport and we like to see all of the racers improve their times but most importantly become better skiers. We have seen that happening each race.” Racers placing in the top eight in their classes included: 7-year-old boys – Nathan Hilbert, second place; 7-year-old girls – Emma Erickson, second place; 8-year-old girls – Erin Magnuson, third Place and Nicole Bloch, seventh place; 9-year-old boys – Michael Hilbert, first place; Logan Erickson, sixth place; 10-year-old girls – Madison Martin, second place and Kelly Zelko, fifth place; 10-year-old boys – Casey Burns, fourth place; 11-year-old girls – Molly Magnuson, third place and Anne Hunstiger, eighth place; 11-year-old boys – Ben Minkel, second place and Nicolas Held, fifth place; 12-year-old boys – Ryan Hunstiger, fifth place, Jacob Held, seventh place and Parker Fuchs, eighth place; 13-year-old girls – Kaitlin Martin, seventh place; Anne Magnuson, eighth place; 13-year-old boys – Warren Olinger, fourth place and Cole Minkel, fifth place; 14-year-old girls – Allie Jameson, second place; 14-year-old boys – William McMillan, seventh place; 15 and older girls – Dani Vetrano, first place and Leah Magnuson, second place, Paige Martin, fourth place, Carolyn Luettke, fifth place and Laura Arnold, sixth place; 15 and older boys – Riley Rice, first place, Eric Magnuson, sixth place, Aaron Anderson, seventh place and Justin Swanson, eighth place. The race at Mt. Kato was the second of four major events throughout the race season. Powder Ridge is scheduled to host one of the four races on Feb. 3.
