Ramona Bertha Quast was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Watkins to Anthony and Clara (Linn) Quast. She grew up on a small farm just outside of Watkins. She married Reuben Roeser on July 28, 1951, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. From that marriage there were four children. Reuben died in 1970, and she married Hjalmer Hokanson on Oct. 21, 1974.

Ramona worked at Weber’s grocery store for many years, but for the majority of her life she worked as a home health care aide until retiring. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and playing cards with them. She was an excellent cook and baker, and she will be remembered as always having chocolate chip cookies and yummy bars on hand. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, casino trips, collecting and displaying various bric-a-brac as she called it, fishing, puzzles, and ballgames.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Reuben Roeser and Hjalmer Hokanson, son Michael Roeser, sisters Marion Kupka and Patricia Beckers, and brother Joseph Quast.

She is survived by her daughters Donna (and Robert) Schreiner of Watkins, Alice Coe (and significant other Jim Weinmann) of Watkins, Shirley Tonnell (and significant other Richard McCann) of St. Augusta; daughter-in-law Joy Roeser of Alexandria; step-children Gary (and Patti) Hokanson of Eagan, and Lynn (and Karon) Hokanson of Watkins; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; brothers John Quast and David Quast; brothers-in-law Donald Hokanson and Clyde Hokanson; sister-in-law Alice Currie; and many nieces and nephews.

A special “thank you” to Hilltop Health Care Center staff for the wonderful care they have provided over the last four years.
