Randy Michael Fabel was born Aug. 5, 1959, in Breckenridge, Minn., to Gary and Marilyn (Olson) Fabel. He grew up in Kimball, moving to Brainerd to complete high school. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1978. While in high school, Randy was a four-sport athlete, and was a 1,000-point scorer in basketball. He furthered his education at St. Cloud State University to obtain his bachelor’s degree while also continuing his basketball career. Randy earned his master’s degree from Southwest Minnesota State University. He taught carpentry at Ridgewater College and St. Cloud Technical College. Randy lived in St. Cloud, Robbinsdale, and Willmar before moving to Grand Lake near Cold Spring.Randy was an avid supporter of his boys during their high school and college careers. He also led by example, instilling hard work and grit in his family. With Randy, a project was never too big or too small. His way of showing he cared was through the work he could do with his hands, and the knowledge he shared. When not helping with a project, Randy could be found at his favorite place: his cabin on Sylvan Lake near Backus. Randy had a great sense of humor, quick wit, and never was one to shy away from telling a joke.
Randy was preceded in death by his father Gary.
