Opening of the Magnus Johnson exhibit; Lindquist to speak at Sept. 1 program

The annual Red Rooster Weekend Saturday morning program at the Dassel History Center is scheduled for Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. It will include the opening of the Magnus Johnson exhibit. Julie (Coleman) Lindquist, St. Cloud, will be the guest speaker.

Lindquist will speak about Magnus Johnson, a Swedish immigrant farmer who became a US Senator, reaching the highest office an immigrant can reach. She has done extensive research on this colorful farmer from the Kingston area.

Earning a BA in music and an MA in history from St. Cloud State University, Lindquist has been a church musician and served as museum director of the Dassel History Center and Ergot Museum from 2001 to 2008.

Weekend exhibits

An exhibit of Tiffany replica lamps will be on display on level four of the museum. These lamps are made by stained glass artists Tom Nelson and Darrel Nyman, Dassel; Earl Doering, Cokato, and Ray Loehlien of Plymouth.

The seed corn exhibit, From Maize to Amazing, will be on level three.

Original paintings by the artist Mamie Falk will also be on display on level two.

Museum hours during the weekend are Saturday, 9 a.m. to
1 p.m.; Monday’s hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
