Richard ‘Dick’ Werner, 89

Richard “Dick” Werner of St. Cloud died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Cloud. He was 89.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud with Rev. Al Stangl officiating. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Friends and relatives may call from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
Richard “Dick” F. Werner was born Oct. 17, 1924, in Watkins to Nicholas and Lorraine (Becker) Werner. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Dick married Eunice Karls Dec. 29, 1953, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. The couple raised their family in Paynesville before moving to St. Cloud 30 years ago. He was a grain merchandiser and owned and operated grain elevators in Eden Valley, Brooten, and Regal. Dick was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and Waite Park American Legion Post 428. He will be dearly missed.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Jim Blender.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Eunice of St. Cloud; children Sharon Blender of Baton Rouge, La., Steven of Missoula, Mont., Diane (and Robert) Burnett of St. Cloud, and David of St. Cloud; grandchildren John (and Hilary) Blender of Covington, La., Lauren Blender of Gonzales, La.; great-granddaughter Abby Blender; siblings Jean Peterson of Superior, Wis., and John “Jack” Werner of Watkins.
