The River Lakes Stars girls’ hockey team dropped a pair of games last week, including a 4-3 home loss to Alexandria on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and a 6-3 road defeat to St. Cloud on Thursday, Jan. 23.
Alexandria
In the loss to the Alexandria Cardinals, the Stars gave up two goals in the second period to enter the final period trailing 2-0. The deficit grew to 3-0 early in that period before the Stars battled back to within one, at 3-2, behind two Sophia Hess goals.
The Cardinals responded with a goal, and Sophia Hess earned the hat trick at the 11:10 mark to pull the Stars back to within one, at 4-3, concluding the scoring.
Hess led the Stars in points with three behind her three goals. Abby Storms and Delayne Hatlestad each recorded a point behind one assist. Kaydence Roeske finished with a save percentage of 87.9 (29 of 33), according to numbers provided on Minnesota Girls’ Hockey Hub.
St. Cloud
The Stars fell into a 3-1 hole after one period versus the
St. Cloud Crush. The team rallied back to within one goal early in the third period, but would get no closer in the eventual 6-3 loss.
For the Stars, Makayla -Schrieber-Horn earned the lone first-period goal, and Bria Larson the lone second-period goal. The Stars trailed 4-2 after two periods.
Schrieber-Horn scored her second goal of the game to draw the Stars to within a goal, at 4-3, at the 5:36 mark. The Crush answered with a pair of goals to provide for the final margin.
Schrieber-Horn led the Stars in points with two behind those two goals. Bria Larson finished with one point behind one goal; and Abby Storms, Delayne -Hatlestad, and Peyton Roeske each had one point on an assist. Kaydence -Roeske finished with a save -percentage of 81.2 (26 of 32), according to numbers provided on -Minnesota Girls’ Hockey Hub.
With these two losses, the Stars hold a 12-11 record, placing the team second behind Minnesota River in the Section 2A standings.
Next action
After hitting the road to play Chisago Lakes to end their regular season on Jan. 28, the Star girls will turn their attention to the- -Section 2A Girls Hockey Tournament set to begin on Thursday, Feb. 6.
