The chill in the air wasn’t the only problem for the Eden Valley Hawks Friday evening, May 28. The Cold Spring Rockies shut out the Hawks, winning 9-0.
The Hawks managed only 4 hits on the game: a double each for Jordan Kelm and Austin Schlangen, and a single each for Riley Geislinger and Austin Berg.
“Our defense continues to be solid, although tonight we did have a few errors,” said manager Troy Thielen.
Jake Brinker earned the win for the Rockies, pitching 8 innings. Brock Humbert pitched in relief.
Tanner Olean would take the loss, allowing 5 runs on 15 hits during his seven innings on the mound; he struck out 7 and walked 1. Ben Arends pitched the final two innings, allowing another 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4.
Alex Geislinger hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning as well as a single and a double for a total 3 RBI. Brady Linn hit a triple and a pair of doubles. Calvin Kalthoff hit three singles for 1 RBI. David Jonas hit a double and 3 singles.
The Eden Valley Hawks next host the Spring Hill Chargers in a non-league game at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, June 4. They play at the Watkins Clippers at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6.
