Rodney “Rod” Robinson, 84

Rodney “Rod” Robinson of Kimball died Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, at Good Shepherd Cottages in Sauk Rapids. He was 84. 
Private inurnment will be held at a later date in Maine Prairie Cemetery with arrangements by Cremation Society of Minnesota.
Rodney James Robinson was born April 16, 1937, in Kimball to Marvin and Gertrude (Garrison) Robinson. He grew up in Kimball. He started his education in Douglas, Alaska, before the family moved back to Kimball prior to the start of World War II. He finished his education in Kimball, graduating in 1956. He married Alice Petty in 1956, and they were blessed with two children, Susan and James.
Rod began his working career with Farmers Union Grain Terminal Association, now Cenex Harvest States, in St. Paul; he retired in 1990. He owned a Dairy Queen in Coon Rapids, with the help of his daughter who managed the business, from 1982 through 1986. After retiring, Rod moved back to Kimball. He served on the Kimball School Board, and he started the Dollars for Scholars scholarship program (now the Kimball Scholarship Organization).
Rod was an adventurist and outdoors person. He was most happy sitting on a mountainside in Alaska waiting for that big moose to appear. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, trap shooter, traveler, and hard worker.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry, and sister-in-law Joan “Punkie.”
He is survived by his wife Alice; children Susan (and Jeff) Shelley, and James Robinson; three grandchildren: Jamison (and Karla) Shelley, Andrea (and Mike) Schmitt, and James Allen Siegrist; three great-grandchildren: Tyler and Luke Schmitt, and Jodi Marie Siegrist; brother Bruce (and Dianne) Robinson; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
