Ruth Brower of Monticello died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023. She was 97.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (4143 3rd St. E.) in Monticello, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Ruth was born July 8, 1925, to Louis and Mary Jane (Dodds) Killmer in Osseo, Minn. She attended Osseo High School, and graduated in 1943. She attended Minnesota Cosmetology School, and practiced until she married Claude D. Brower on Sept. 24, 1949. She lived in Kimball until she moved to Monticello in 1970.
Church was an important part of Ruth’s life. She was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the Mission Ladies Guild, the American Legion Auxiliary, a Gala Group that helped widows and widowers, and she was a volunteer for Monticello Senior Center events. She worked in many capacities as a beautician, pharmacist helper, bookeeper for a bank, and handing out samples at Coborn’s. Ruth loved spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids. She has been an inspiration for all who knew her. She also enjoyed dancing, golfing, bowling, fishing, walking, and other activities.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Claude; and four siblings and their spouses: Byron (and Esther) Killmer, Allen (and Nora) Killmer, Russell (and Evelyn) Killmer, and Lorna (and George) Tonn.
She is survived by her children Larry (and Rosie) Brower, Steve (and Gayla) Brower, Mickey (and Deb) Brower, and Linda (and Lee) Richard; 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Arrangements are with Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel in Monticello.
