Safe and Sober campaign

·

The Kimball Police Department has joined a statewide effort to decrease impaired driving and increase the use of seatbelts and child safety seats with the Safe & Sober campaign.

The campaign will begin May 24 and continue throughout the year. The Kimball Police Department is joining the Safe & Sober campaign effort in order to combat the leading cause of death for infants over the age of six months and young adults through 34 years old – traffic crashes. Crashes are also the leading cause of paraplegia and quadriplegia. Each year, approximately 600 people are killed and 40,000 others are injured on Minnesota’s roads and highways.

Traffic crashes cost Minnesotans nearly $1.6 billion each year. Ultimately, these costs show up in each person’s vehicle and medical insurance premiums and their federal, state and local taxes.

The Kimball Police Department urges everyone to wear their seatbelts and also buckle children in their restraints. The police department will not give a warning for these violations. A citation will be issued to enforce compliance.
