Meeker County Sheriff Mike Hirman announces that the sheriff’s office applied for and has been awarded $22,000 for the 2008 Safe & Sober campaign. This is a federal grant, administered through the Minnesota Department of Traffic Safety. In 2008, the Watkins Police Department and the Eden Valley Police Department will be partner agencies working this grant with the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, who will also represent Grove City and Dassel, as the sheriff’s office contracts law enforcement services with these two communities. The Safe & Sober project is a multi-step program that identifies the problem, reducing crashes and increasing selt belt use, thereby reducing personal injuries and fatal crashes through education, and enforcement throughout the year.
