Sonny Schiefelbein, a senior from Kimball High School, will be performing in her final show with the St. Cloud Figure Skating Club this weekend after 13 years with the program. Schiefelbein will perform as a soloist and will have a role in several group pieces during the show “What If … “, which will be held Saturday and Sunday at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex. Schiefelbein has been skating year round for the St. Cloud Figure Skating Club since she was five years old and has competed in freestyle and artistic events. She has earned several top-three trophies over the years, with her favorite events coming in the artistic competition. She played the role of the Tin Man from “The Wizard of Oz,” skated as Doris Day to music from “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be),” and performed as the Tacky Tourist to music from Madonna. Schiefelbein said she looks up to Olympic skaters Kristi Yamaguchi and Sasha Cohen. She likes how they involved the crowd in their presentations, and also enjoys their graceful performances and kind personalities on the ice. “When I was young, I watched my sister Erin skate and it looked like fun, so I thought I would like to try it,” Schiefelbein said. “I’ve been skating ever since.” Schiefelbein, the daughter of Cathy and Frank Schiefelbein, III, of Kimball, said she enjoys learning new jumps and skills, and finds the sport fun and exciting. Her grandmother, Jean McDonnell from Buffalo, was her driver and supporter over the years. When not skating, Schiefelbein is active in softball, National Honor Society, and Future Farmers of America. She also plays the flute and piccolo in the high school band. After graduating, Schiefelbein will attend college at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The St. Cloud Figure Skating Club will present its “What If … ” skating show at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, and at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex (MAC).
