Second-place international tractor pulling champion resides in Kimball

He’s back and he is at it again. Ted Zipoy recently competed in the international tractor pull competition in Lincoln, Neb. This time, the young champ earned the second-place international title. The international competition was different than others, explained Ted’s mom, Sue. She said that most tractor pulls feature many contenders in each age category, up to 65 at state pulls. The international event had eight children in each age group; the top five U.S. champs and the top three winners from Canada. “This time, Ted pulled 100 pounds,” Sue said. Each participant was given one chance to pedal the tractor as far as possible. Attached weights added tension to the contenders push of the pedal. This made it harder for the young athletes. Ted said that this competition was a little harder than others. “It was harder to reach the pedal and heavier [to push].” Even with the higher level of competition, Ted was successful. “I won a trophy,” Ted said. “It had a gold ring with metal and marble rock on the bottom.” ESPN and a mailed surprise After returning home from the international competition, others told the Zipoy family that Ted was on ESPN. “We really didn’t know anything about this,” Sue said. From reports the family received, Ted was featured for his international pulling talents in the top 10 plays of the weekend. Shortly after the airing, Ted received a surprise package in the mail. It was a CASE tractor. “We don’t know who sent it,” Sue said. But it was a welcomed surprise. A season’s end Sue said that the tractor pull season is almost over. Ted plans to compete in a few more local events before gearing up for state. Ted said that he is disappointed the season is over, “because I like it.” The state competition will take place Sept. 6 at the Wright County fairgrounds in Hutchinson. The public is welcome to attend.
