Secretary of State Mark Ritchie offers Flag Etiquette Resource for veterans day observance

SAINT PAUL, Minn.-Nov. 6, 2009-On Nov. 11 our nation will pause to honor the service of those men and women in uniform who defend our freedom. Veterans Day is a day when many citizens will proudly display our nation’s flag to honor our veteran heroes. The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State suggests its Guide to Flag Etiquette to assist Minnesotans in displaying the nation’s flag appropriately.

“The flag is one of this country’s most enduring symbols of liberty and justice for all and must be handled respectfully,” said Secretary Ritchie. “When observing Veterans Day, each of us has an opportunity to remind our younger generations about the service of our men and women in uniform and the importance of flag etiquette to honor their service.”

The Guide to Flag Etiquette is available free by e-mailing the Office of the Secretary of State at secretary.state@state.mn.us or by calling 651-201-1324. Quantities are available for distribution to groups and classrooms. A PDF of the brochure is also available online, at http://www.sos.state.mn.us/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=4308.
