Seventh-grade baseball beats Howard Lake, falls to B-B-E

Tuesday, May 9, the seventh-grade baseball team hosted Howard Lake. The Cubs were able to pull out a win 7-5. Cody Leither made the start on the mound. He gave up 4 runs over 3 innings of work. He was a little wild, but battled through some jams. In the second inning, the Cubs got in the scoring column by scoring 5 runs. Matthew Young hit a double for 2 rbi, Devin Waldorf added an rbi, and Ashton Hanan also had a 2 rbi triple. In the third inning, Howard Lake had bases loaded and 3 runs already in when Leither got a ground ball to Young at second, he flipped to Hanan at short and he fired to Ace Meyer at 1st for a beautiful 4-6-3 double play to get out of the inning. In the 4th inning the Cubs got a few insurance runs as Leither, Meyer, and Hanan all collected hits with Hanan?Äôs being a two rbi double. Skylor Gruba came into the game in relief of Leither and pitched 3 great innings only giving up 1 run to close the game. Hitting highlights for the Cubs included Leither 1-2 with 2 runs scored, Hanan 2-3 with a  double, triple, and 4 rbi?Äôs, Ace Meyer 2-2, Gruba 1-3, and Young 2-2 including a double and 2 rbi?Äôs.

Friday, May 12, the boys played another home game against BBE. The bats fell silent and the boys fell to the Jaguars by a score of 5-0. The Cubs were only able to muster 3 hits while striking out 12 times. Ace Meyer started on the mound for the Cubs and battled through 3 innings. He gave up 4 runs, had 6 strike outs, and got out of a couple jams to limit the damage. Devin Waldorf came in relief and pitched well over 2 innings only giving up one run. In the sixth inning Mason Libbesmeier came in and had a 1-2-3 inning. At the plate the Cubs could not get anything going against some tough BBE pitching. It was probably the best pitching we have seen so far this year. The Cub?Äôs record now stands at 5-2 with three games to go in the season. This week the Cubs played at Eden Valley on Monday, hosted ACGC on Tuesday and will finish off the year by hosting New London-Spicer on Thursday.
