The seventh-grade football season came to an end this last Tuesday in Kimball with a tough loss to a very talented team from Howard-Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW). The game was a better played game from the young Cubs than the first time we traveled to Howard Lake. Despite the loss, the boys should be proud of the way they fought against a very big and physical football team. The team had two other really big games. Both opened to be our two victories for the season. One win came against our biggest rival, Eden Valley-Watkins, with a 6-0 win earlier this season. The other was a 8-0 defeat over CMC powerhouse Holdingford up in Hodingford to start the season off. Both of the games were defensive battles from both teams, except we were able to get off the big play in both games to set up the lone scores for the game. Despite having a record of just 2-5, these boys came out and played hard everyday at practice and at our games. Having just 16 boys out for football this year was evidence enough of how hard they had to play to be competitive against teams with much larger numbers out. With some work in the off-season on getting stronger and faster, along with keeping up with their school work, I see no reason why this group of boys shouldn’t be successful in their football years to come. I want to thank the boys for the efforts they showed me, and the laughs we shared during my time working with them. I also want to thank the parents who came out to support the boys, and run the chains at our home games.
