Some excessive heat may be on the way

We have gone from some cool weekends of late, but this last weekend was finally very nice!

Temperatures returned over the weekend to more seasonal readings in the mid- to upper-70s across the area. It was a great weekend for those wanting to get
a start on the 4th of July celebration. A couple of stray showers made their way across parts of the Upper Midwest, but most of Greater Minnesota enjoyed a pleasant weekend.

Our Independence Day was wonderful, too, for all of you enjoying an area parade; or out on the water, golfing, barbecuing, biking, etc. and otherwise just enjoying some great weather! Temperatures were generally in the low- to mid-80s both Monday and Tuesday.

Some isolated showers and thunderstorms were in the forecast by Tuesday night, but much of Minnesota enjoyed a great celebration of fireworks and fun!

The heat will be on for Minnesota with lots of upper 80s and even some low- to mid-90s set to arrive by Wednesday and Thursday. Factoring in the humidity, we could see heat indices in the 90s and possibly near 100 degrees.

The National Weather Service issues heat watches and advisories when the heat index is expected to reach or exceed 100 to 110 degrees. Parts of Minnesota could see some excessive heat this week towards the weekend.

Drink plenty of liquids, put on the sunscreen and enjoy the summer weather!

Weather history: On this date in 1936 Minneapolis recorded a record high of a very hot 104 degrees F.
