St. Cloud Juneteenth celebration

St. Cloud’s ninth annual Juneteenth Celebration will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 18, at Riverside Park. Bring a dish (salads and dressing, desserts, chips and dips, etc.) to share in the pot luck. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken and veggie patties, grills, fun, games, music and Black History information will be provided. Juneteenth festivities will include the following. o Old-fashioned cook-out and grilling. o Games and recreational activities for kids. o Black history and Juneteenth Knowledge Bowl. o African-American and African arts and crafts. o Voter registration and health information. o Opportunity to meet public officials. o Prizes and gifts include authentic African cultural objects. Juneteenth marks the anniversary of freed black slaves in Texas. These slaves found out that they were free between June 13-19 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been passed.
