St. James Parish celebrates 150 years

St. James Parish of Jacobs Prairie will celebrate its 150th anniversary Saturday and Sunday, June 12-13. The church is located on County Road 2 between Cold Spring and St. Joseph. June 12 A polka mass will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 12. Acts from “Hee-Haw Jacobs Prairie Style” will perform following the mass, and roast beef and pork sandwiches, pizza, beer and pop will be served, and pull tabs will be available. “Smokin’ Guns” will provide live music from 8 p.m.-12 a.m. June 13 A brunch will be served from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 13. Bishop John Kinney will officiate a mass at 9 a.m. All stands will open after the mass. Activities include children’s games, cake walk and bingo. Pull tabs and chance books will be for sale, and the lunch stand will be open. Horsedrawn trolley rides will be from 12-4 p.m. More than 32 hand-made quilts will be featured in the quilt auction at 2 p.m. Many were pieced and sewn by the Jacobs Prairie Quilters. “Wildwoods” will provide live music in the afternoon, and the parish raffle will be at 6 p.m.
