By next spring St. John’s Lutheran Church expects to break ground for a new building at a new location on the northern edge of Kimball. “Our congregation and our community are growing, and we need more room to reach out with the Gospel,” said Rev. David Milz, pastor of St. John’s. The church has purchased four acres of land and plan to begin construction on a larger church next fall. The new sanctuary will accommodate 250 for worship, and the building will offer more space for ministry, including the congregation’s growing Sunday school and youth programs. To help make this vision a reality, the congregation is partnering with Capital Funding Services (CFS), the capital fund-raising arm of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. CFS helps congregations raise funds to build and to retire burdensome debt. “I have been overwhelmingly blessed and inspired by this congregation of such highly motivated and caring individuals,” said Larry Solberg, CFS senior regional consultant, who is working with St. John’s on its “For All Generations” stewardship emphasis. To date, members have exceeded their expectations and raised $260,000 in pledges and commitments. Pastor Milz called the Biblically based emphasis “an excellent experience” that helped the congregation raise more for ministry than it could have accomplished on its own.
