Successful capital fund drive St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball has recently completed its capital fund drive. Members of the congregation were given the opportunity to make three-year commitments to provide capital funds for construction of their new facilities on the four-acre site in the Greely Edition housing development on the southeast side of Kimball. A total of $270,000 was committed to the capital fund from 69 families and individuals, exceeding all expectations. Architectural plans are in the final stage of development. The congregation hopes to break ground on the new church next Spring, May 5, 2005. Outdoor worship/picnic The members of St. John’s will hold their 8th annual outdoor worship and church picnic Sunday, Sept. 12, at Willow Creek Park in Kimball. Visitors are invited to the 9:30 a.m. service to be held under the trees at the east end of the park loop drive. Everyone should bring a lawn chair . After the service Sunday School Rally Day activities will get under way, followed by a picnic at 11 a.m. (grilled hot dogs, root beer floats, and pot-luck salads and desserts). Members of the Kimball Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department have been invited as special guests at the picnic. A freewill offering will be collected, as a “thank-you” for their service, for the purchase of a new equipment van.
