The River Lakes Stars girls’ hockey team fell into an early 4-0 deficit after one period on the road versus the Chisago Lakes Wildcats. It was a deficit that proved too much for the team to overcome. Hurt by the Wildcats’ -Lauren Schmidt’s hat trick, the Stars fell 5-1 on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the team’s regular-season finale.
With her team trailing 5-0 late, Madi Wendlandt scored the Stars’ lone goal at the 13:41 mark. Kienna St. John assisted on the goal.
Stars’ goalie Kaydence -Roeske finished with a save percentage of 83% (25 of 30), according to numbers provided on The -Minnesota Star Tribune Minnesota Girls’ Hockey Hub.
With the loss – the team’s fourth straight – the Stars finish the regular season with a 12-12-1 record. As of Jan. 31, the team sat second in the Section 2A standings, behind only Minnesota River, according to the Minnesota-Scores.net QRF rankings.
The team opens its Section 2A Girls Hockey Tournament play at the high seed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6. With a win, the team would advance to the section semifinals, also at the high seed, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.
