Stearns County election result accuracy

·

Stearns County Auditor-
Treasurer Randy Schreifels would like to inform residents a Post-Election Review (PER) was held Nov. 20, 2018, at the Stearns County Administration Center. A post-election review is a state required manual recount of randomly selected precincts for specific offices following each state general election. The PER compares a hand count of the ballots with the results from the electronic voting systems to determine if the counting accuracy of the voting system meets a defined standard. The precincts are selected at the time of the county canvassing of the state general election. The precincts selected to audit were Oak Township, City of Roscoe, and City of St. Cloud W4P7.

The comparison of the results from the voting system and the manual count done during the PER must be accurate to within one-half of one percent or not more than two votes in precincts where 400 or fewer voters cast ballots. Stearns County Auditor-
Treasurer Randy Schreifels stated that in all three precincts the results of the audit showed the accuracy of the voting systems to be very high and meeting the defined standard.

The PER was monitored by members of Citizens for Election Integrity Minnesota, a non-partisan organization that advocates for verifiable, transparent and accurate elections in Minnesota.
