Stearns County employees take furlough day

·

Staffing at the Stearns County offices around the 4th of July holiday will be minimal due to furlough days employees will be required to take.

The furlough days, which fall either before or after the 4th of July holiday, July 2 or 6, are part of Stearns County’s plan to save money due to state budget cuts.

Citizens who plan to come in to the Stearns County offices to conduct any business on these days need to keep in mind that they will encounter reduced staff.

“Services will be somewhat limited on these days due to the County’s implementation of unpaid furloughs for employees,” noted County Administrator, George Rindelaub. “This could result in longer waiting lines for services, including services at the License Center, offices dealing with real estate, Human Services or Environmental Services.”

All employees agreed to take one unpaid furlough day in 2009. This will save the County approximately $151,000.

“I hope the public will understand that the County will do the best it can to provide quality services with the staff it has on these days,” said Rindelaub. “We will need to be patient as the County works to address the revenue shortfalls caused by this economic downturn.”

Employees also have the option of taking their furlough day before or after the Labor Day holiday – either Friday, Sept. 4, or Tuesday, Sept. 8.
