Stearns County began the process of moving employees into its new Stearns County Service Center over the weekend of Sept. 19.
Located in Waite Park, at 3301 County Road 138, about one block west of Mills Fleet Farm, off 28th Avenue South, residents will find the new facility easy to access off Highway 23 and I-94. There will be directional signs for the facility posted in both directions on County Road 75, Highway 23 and 28th Avenue South (which runs by Mills Fleet Farm).
Three Stearns County divisions will be located in the new building: Stearns County’s License Center West, Human Services Public Health Division, and most of Human Services Community Corrections Division.
The move-in will happen in three phases, to accommodate each division. The first move will be License Center West. Stearns County’s current License Center West location at 3335 W. St. Germaine near Walmart will permanently close Friday, Sept. 18. It will re-open for business Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the new location.
A drive-through service is the highlight of the License Center West new facilities. The License Center office hours are 8 – 5, but the drive through will remain open until 5:30 for renewals only – renewals of motor vehicle registrations and tabs, DNR snowmobile, ATV, and boat renewals, and property tax payment drop-offs. Cash or check payments only will be accepted in the drive-through. Questions can be directed to License Center West at (320) 656-6540. This does not affect downtown License Center services.
Public Health’s downtown office will be moved into the building Monday, Sept. 28. After this date, all Public Health services, including WIC clinics, paternity testing, immunization clinics and medication office visits will no longer be offered downtown, but instead at the new Service Center location. The Melrose Office will remain open as usual.
Lastly, Community Corrections, all but the Juvenile Unit, will move out to the Stearns County Service Center the first weekend in October. The entire building’s services will then be open to the public Monday, Oct. 5.
Just more than 90 employees will be located at the new 45,000-square foot Stearns County Service Center.
