Local artisan cheese maker to speak at event

The Stearns History Museum will recognize and celebrate Stearns County?Äôs newly added Century Farms with a program and reception Sunday, Nov. 15. The event, which is free to Century Farm families and Museum members, begins at
1 p.m. The public also is welcomed to attend the celebration. Cost for non-members is $7 for adults, $3 for children.

Lucas Sjostrom of Redhead Creamery, Brooten, will talk about the 130-year history of their property, and how dairy operations have evolved during that time. He also will touch upon their cheese-making business. Lucas and his wife, Alise, along with her parents, Jerry and Linda Jennissen, own Redhead Creamery, which launched in July 2014. They have three specialized cheese products that are working their way into markets across the state, including Good Earth Food Co-op in St. Cloud and the Kowalski?Äôs markets in the Twin Cities area.

The Century Farm Program, which began in 1978, recognizes the long history of Stearns County farmers as stewards of the land and the tradition of passing down this way of life to family members. Each June, Museum staff honors new program participants with the installation of commemorative markers at their farms. These families must have owned at least 50 acres continuously for 100 years or more.
