Superintendent Update Week of Oct. 26

·

Good Day Kimball. It?Äôs Halloween week and I know that this time of year is exciting for the students as they prepare to get dressed up for some fun. There are many activities planned for the kids including grandparents?Äô day Thursday, Oct. 29, at the elementary building. I remember that day last year and it was amazing to see the number of grandparents who came to the school, as well as the excitement of the students having them there.

This week will be a fun week for me as well. Each month, my building principals pick a staff member who they feel has gone above and beyond the call of duty and reward them with a free day off. The reason this is fun for me is that I get to be the substitute teacher in the class for the day. My roots take me back to being in the classroom and its fun for me to meet the students. I get to teach like I did back in my days in the St. Cloud school district. This week I will be subbing in Ms. Olmsheid?Äôs second-grade class and in Ms. Mortenson?Äôs English classroom. My background was a high school science teacher, but what I found from doing this last year, was my teaching instincts kick in pretty fast and it feels good being in front of the students again. Hopefully I don?Äôt scare the second-graders too much. Being in the classroom in each building in the district reminds me why I moved my family back to the area when I see how great the students and parents are around the community. The Kimball School District has many great educators and students who make this area what it is.

I want to take this moment to also remind parents and all drivers to drive safely and don?Äôt text while driving. The bus company informed me of a number of drivers who are going around school busses while the stop arm is out. Please pay attention when driving around a school bus. We do not need or want any accidents or injuries to anyone from inattentive driving. There is no excuse for drivers to be driving around a school bus when the stop arm is out and extended. For the safety of the students, bus drivers, and students in the bus, pay attention when you are driving.

This is also the last week that I will be encouraging everyone to come and vote on the operating levy and the building bond. This is an exciting time for Kimball and the surrounding communities. The pieces are in place for the school district to take the community to the next level. The areas we are looking at improving will set us apart from surrounding school districts and allow us to offer things that the students and the community will benefit from. The possibilities are endless for the future of our community and district. My vision is for Kimball to have and be the best, and no longer have to settle or be second fiddle to anyone.

I will update you next week on my time in the classroom as I look forward to being in the classroom again. Reminder that the voting for the election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the polls open at 2 p.m. and will close at 8 p.m., at the high school south entrance door #10. Thank you for your support of the school district. Have a great weekend, enjoy Halloween and GO CUBS!
