It has been pretty quiet for much of the region as far as snowfall, as no major winter storms have pushed across the state. We did see some scattered flurries over the weekend and again on Monday.

The scattered light snow on Monday was associated with a warm front that pushed across the region. Highs climbed back to more seasonal readings after a chilly day on Sunday. By the way, highs on Sunday were generally only in the single digits.

The real warm air arrives on Tuesday. Much of the area could see the mid- to upper-30s, but some 40s are expected across southern Minnesota. That should get some of you thinking spring. If it wasn’t for the snow on the ground, I think we could have seen the 40s and even the 50s on Tuesday.

By Wednesday, temperatures will remain above average, but we should fall back into the mid- to upper-20s. It is going to be windy also through Friday. Some light snow will also be possible through this Friday. In addition, some snow mixed with rain can’t be ruled out on Thursday as temperatures are expected to climb back into the mid- to upper-30s.

Expect a cool down for the start of the weekend as highs should reach only into the single digits for Saturday. Thankfully, that should be short-lived.

Keep thinking spring.

Weather history: On this date in 1899 it was cold all over Minnesota as artic air spilled into the state. However, the coldest air was found in northern Minnesota as the “mercury plummeted to -59 at Leech Lake Dam!”

Weather facts: Did you know that continental arctic air is much colder and drier than continental polar air?
